Northern Iowa Panthers
The UNI-Dome is a multi-purpose indoor stadium on the University of Northern Iowa campus in Cedar Falls, Iowa, that opened in 1976. With a capacity of 16,000 for football, this climate-controlled venue was an engineering marvel at the time, featuring an innovative air-supported roof that spanned 464 feet. After weather-related roof deflations in the 1990s, the air-supported system was replaced with a hybrid rigid roof in 1998, enhancing durability. The UNI-Dome has hosted countless memorable games and provides the Panthers with a true home-field advantage during Iowa winters.
The UNI-Dome was built to provide Northern Iowa with a year-round indoor facility for athletics and campus events. The $7.5 million structure was funded through university bonds, student fees, private donations (including $750,000 from philanthropist Roy Carver), and loans. Groundbreaking occurred on July 26, 1974, after years of fundraising.
The bowl seating provides excellent sightlines throughout the venue. Lower bowl seats near midfield offer the best views. The enclosed environment creates loud, intimidating atmosphere for visiting teams. End zone seating is popular with students and provides great energy.
Parking is available in campus lots surrounding the UNI-Dome. Arrive 2 hours early for best availability. The indoor venue means weather is never a concern, making this one of the most comfortable gameday experiences in FCS.
The UNI-Dome offers climate-controlled comfort year-round. The indoor environment amplifies crowd noise significantly. Full concessions and modern amenities throughout the facility. The current renovation project (completion fall 2026) will further enhance the fan experience. Explore the nearby McLeod Center and campus before or after the game.
