North Carolina Central Eagles
O'Kelly–Riddick Stadium, opened in 1975, is a 10,000-seat facility in Durham, North Carolina that serves as home to the North Carolina Central Eagles. Named after Cadd G. O'Kelly, who transformed rocky land into NCCU's first athletic field, and Coach Riddick, the stadium has hosted memorable moments including the Eagles' 2022 HBCU National Championship celebration.
The stadium was built in 1975 to replace earlier facilities and provide NCCU with a modern home venue. The site has deep historical significance - Cadd G. O'Kelly moved to Durham in 1910 to work with NCCU founder Dr. James E. Shepard, clearing rocks and brush to create the school's first athletic field during his 25-year tenure.
Main grandstand seating offers excellent views of the field with good sightlines throughout. The student section near the band creates the most energetic atmosphere. Premium seating at midfield provides the best overall experience for Eagles gameday.
Campus parking lots fill 2 hours before kickoff. Free parking available in designated areas off Lawson Street and Fayetteville Street. Durham's moderate stadium size makes parking more accessible than larger venues. Consider rideshare from downtown Durham hotels.
NCCU's homecoming is one of the premier HBCU events in the nation. The marching band delivers outstanding performances. Durham's vibrant food scene offers excellent pre and post-game options. The atmosphere is especially electric for rivalry games and homecoming celebrations.
