A western heritage museum in downtown Abilene that uses life-sized holographic "spirit" characters to immerse visitors in the story of frontier West Texas from the 1780s through the 1880s. Also serves as the official visitor center for Abilene and the Texas Forts Trail Region.

💡 The experience runs approximately 90 minutes; arrive with enough time before closing (6 pm Mon–Sat, 5 pm Sun) to complete the full walkthrough.

Housed in the restored 1909 Hotel Grace building in downtown Abilene, this three-floor museum combines rotating Texas fine art and photography exhibitions with regional history galleries and a family creative space called Spark.

💡 Thursday evenings 5–8 pm are free for everyone. The museum is closed Sundays and Mondays, so plan accordingly.

An AZA-accredited 16-acre zoo home to over 800 animals representing more than 175 species, with highlights including a giraffe feeding station (Giraffe Safari), and animals from North America, Africa, South America, and the Caribbean.

💡 Summer hours (roughly Memorial Day–Labor Day): gates open 8 am, last entry 3 pm, park closes 4 pm; Thursday evenings in June–August the zoo stays open until 9 pm. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. Check the zoo website for current seasonal hours before visiting.

One of Texas's most evocative frontier ruins — a free, self-guided open-air site preserving stone chimneys and three original stone buildings (including the guardhouse and magazine) of a U.S. Army post occupied from 1851 to 1854 on the windswept plains north of Abilene.

💡 Open daily from sunrise to sunset; free interpretive materials and restrooms are on site. From I-20 take FM 600 north for 11 miles — the ruins are visible from the road.
