📖About New Aloha Stadium

The new Aloha Stadium is a planned 31,000-seat venue in Hālawa on the island of Oʻahu (Honolulu area), scheduled to open in 2029. The centerpiece of the New Aloha Stadium Entertainment District (NASED) — a 98-acre public-private mixed-use redevelopment — it will replace the original Aloha Stadium, which closed in 2020 and is being demolished through 2026; construction of the new stadium is expected to begin in early 2027. It will also include 28 luxury suites and club lounges. Upon opening, it will serve as the permanent home of the University of Hawaiʻi Rainbow Warriors football program (FBS, Mountain West Conference), which has been playing at the on-campus Clarence T.C. Ching Complex in the interim.

🏛️New Aloha Stadium History

Origins

The original Aloha Stadium opened in 1975 in Hālawa but was beset for years by severe structural rust and deterioration. It was closed to fans in December 2020 — initially blamed on COVID-19 financial pressures, but ultimately due to irreversible structural failures. Rather than undertake prohibitively expensive repairs on the aging steel facility, the State of Hawaiʻi committed $350 million in 2019 to redevelop the entire 98-acre site. The result is NASED: a new 31,000-seat multi-sport stadium serving as the anchor for a mixed-use entertainment district that will add 4,100-plus housing units, hotel towers, office space, retail, restaurants, and open green space on the old stadium grounds.
