Eastern Kentucky Colonels
Roy Kidd Stadium opened in 1969 as Hanger Field and was renamed in 1990 to honor legendary coach Roy Kidd, who won 314 games and two NCAA Division I-AA Championships (1979, 1982) during his tenure. The 20,000-seat facility is unique in that it was originally built as an "academic-athletic showplace" combining classroom space with a stadium. Major expansions in 2017 added over 3,000 seats and modern amenities.
Built in 1969 as both classroom space and a stadium to justify the project in the political climate of the late 1960s. President Robert R. Martin envisioned an "academic-athletic showplace" that served dual purposes for the university.
The expanded east side offers modern amenities and excellent sightlines. Lower bowl seats between the 30-yard lines provide best views of the action.
Multiple parking lots surround the stadium. Arrive 2-3 hours early for prime tailgating spots.
Experience Colonels football at a stadium honoring one of the FCS's greatest coaches. The passionate fanbase and historic atmosphere create an exciting environment.
