Wofford Terriers
Gibbs Stadium opened in 1996 as Wofford moved from Division II to Division I-AA, replacing historic Snyder Field. The 13,000-seat facility in Spartanburg, South Carolina was named for the Gibbs family after their $1 million donation. Since opening, Wofford has won seven Southern Conference championships and hosted the NFL's Carolina Panthers training camp for 28 seasons (1995-2023, excluding 2020), making it one of the FCS's most recognized venues.
Built in 1996 to coincide with Wofford's transition from Division II to Division I-AA and joining the Southern Conference. The Terriers needed a larger, modern facility to meet Division I standards and replace Snyder Field, which had served since the early 1900s.
The home (west) side offers the best overall views and facilities. Visitor sections on the east side still provide good sightlines in this compact stadium. Upper rows provide views of the Spartanburg skyline.
Campus lots accessible from North Church Street. Spartanburg's central location makes parking easier than more remote schools. Arrive 2-3 hours early for conference games.
The NFL's Carolina Panthers held summer training camp at Gibbs Stadium for 28 seasons (1995-2023), creating a unique pro-college connection. Wofford and Furman played the first intercollegiate football game in South Carolina history in 1889. The stadium also hosts the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas. Downtown Spartanburg offers diverse dining within minutes of campus.
