Davidson Wildcats
Richardson Stadium is a 6,000-seat venue on Davidson College's campus just north of Charlotte, North Carolina. Opened in 1923, it is one of the oldest football stadiums in the Pioneer Football League and has served as the home of Wildcats football for over a century. The intimate, campus-integrated setting offers a classic small-college atmosphere. Note: Davidson opened a new 5,000-seat Davidson College Stadium adjacent to the Richardson Stadium site in April 2024; the university has been transitioning football operations to the new facility.
Richardson Stadium was built in 1923 to give the Davidson Wildcats a dedicated football home on the college's North Carolina campus. For over 100 years it hosted Wildcats football in a traditional, open-air setting. In 2024, the adjacent $45.8 million Davidson College Stadium opened as a modern replacement, designed by LaBella Associates with chairback seating and an integrated Game Changers Field House.
Richardson Stadium offers an intimate viewing experience where every seat is close to the action. Midfield bleacher sections between the 30-yard lines provide the best vantage points. The small footprint means there are no bad seats in the house.
Campus parking is available in lots near the stadium. Arrive early for best availability on game days. The small campus makes walking from most lots easy. Check Davidson College Athletics for game-day parking maps.
Davidson's beautiful campus is worth exploring before kickoff. The academic village atmosphere creates a unique college football experience. Tailgating is family-friendly and reflects Davidson's tight-knit community spirit.
