Houston Texans
NRG Stadium opened in 2002 as the Houston Texans home with a capacity of 72,220. The first NFL facility with a retractable roof, its two panels open or close in seven minutes. It hosted Super Bowl XXXVIII (2004) and Super Bowl LI (2017), the first Super Bowl in overtime. Originally named Reliant Stadium, it was renamed NRG Stadium in 2014. The playing surface is Hellas Matrix Helix artificial turf, with temporary natural grass for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Designed to replace the Astrodome and secure an NFL expansion franchise for Houston. The retractable roof was a primary requirement to manage the Texas heat while allowing for open-air football.
The 300-level Club seats offer premium air-conditioned concourses. The "Bull Pen" (sections 133-138) is known for the most vocal home fans.
Parking is categorized by color; check your pass carefully and follow the specific highway exits. The METRORail Red Line drops you directly at the stadium.
Tailgating in "The BULLevard" outside the stadium is a must. Watch for "Toro" the mascot's dramatic entrance and the team running through the bull’s horns with steam.
